Back the seventies when I was with Factory, we used to play the Byrds version of Dylan’s My Back Pages, and I did a little intro piece on the acoustic 12-string. In ’86 I made a song out of it, adding a Boston-influence to it. Once again, I took it to Chris and he provided the melody, and I helped him complete the lyrics. When I recorded “Come Back Baby” for the album, I thought percussion would be nice. The best percussion player I knew of was Paulinho da Costa, who worked with Michael Jackson, Madonna, Sting and everyone else. I was amazed I was able to get him on the phone, and even more amazed he agreed to play on the track. He was great, wanted to make sure we were really happy with what he did, in fact he said he took his rhythm from the way we were dancing around to the song in the studio. He had such a great vibe, which remained with us in the studio even after he left. |
